Motorola Cps Programming Software Questionnaire
I would never consider a Moto radio for ham use, just my 2¢. I wouldn't' even consider them worth $300, more like maybe 50¢ for a display item. They are a pretty good radio for public service use.

You typed this>I read some people say that the 3000's are not capable of FPP and I know otherwise. I know a couple of hams have 3000 and they have a simple keyboard command. Is there a mod for this? I wasn't being mean I was just straight and to the point as to XTS3K and FPP as you did say 'that you know other wise' with reference to an XTS3k with FPP, and this comment is something that a reader would take to mean that you know that an xts3k is FPP capable.
The symptom is loss of some or many areas of the LCD characters and there are no more manufacturer replacement nor any substitute displays available anymore so if your radio exhibits this problem then you'll need to source a used display and hope it lasts. As a result of the display issue and the age of the xts3k line if you paid more than ~300 dollars for your radio, even with a good battery, antenna and charger then you were taken.
I have an APX7000 VHF+UHF which has almost all the channels I need and much more. Now I also have an APX2000 VHF and am awaiting APX4000 UHF. Allright, I can export all my data from APX7000 to APX4000 or 2000, but how do I get rid of the freuency data which is 'wrong' for mono-band radios? To make it simplier, how do I export VHF (or UHF) channels and personalities only? Is it possible? APX7000 has time display and set button and displays clock on default.

The Customer Programming Software required to configure a MOTOTRBO radio is only available to Motorola Channel Partners, who in terms of their agreement with Motorola Solutions, have access to. This is the case for all customers in Europe; the Middle-East and Africa (EMEA). I understand that in the USA and Canada, it is possible for end-customers to gain access to by purchasing a software subscription licence - this is not available in EMEA.
I don't know about Latin America or Asia. End customers in EMEA can obtain the CPS from the same source as their radios.

I have reliable cps performance using original rln4008 ribs only under windows 98 and WINDOWS XP without having to resort to these other measures to make the cps read and write reliably with the higher versions of windows. I have limited success using usb only programming cables with windows versions above win xp even with other methods used which I'm not going to get into because it's convoluted and not for beginners. The xts3k has one big flaw and that is that the glue used on the zebra strip connector of the LCD drys up and the LCD drops pixels, every xts3k that I have seen exhibits this issue after about 12 years or less of life and considering that most xts3ks are now beyond 12 years of age means don't be surprised if your radios LCD starts dropping bits of characters/numbers when the radio becomes hot or colder than RT.
His suggestion was to use either a Motorola Service Station (MSS) or one of the eBay progamming providers. With all that said, lot of luck using a MSS they typically are buried in their repeat customers and charge a fortune. I spoke with MOLN on 17 January 2012. 73, good luck Logged.

Thank you in advance. You need to hexedit the cps to move the hi uhf xts3k to 440 MHz. It will go down to 438 MHz once these cps hex changes are made. There are no vco adjustments available in the radios so your only choice is to hexedit the band limits in the cps.

The uhf model has a whored flash code without a full keypad and that flashcode, even with it being whored out, doesn't seem correct for a xts3k. The vhf model does have a FKP but neither have capabilities to change frequencies from the keypad without using CPS and neither radio will ever be capable of FPP. Both xts3k only have 256 personalities. « Last Edit: September 13, 2016, 10:26:24 PM by WB8VLC » Logged.
If you really believe that the xts3k has fpp capabilities then fine believe it but after 18 years of programming xts3ks, I'll not argue on an internet group so have at it if you think it's possible. The people you mention that have a FPP capable xts3000 with some mythical keypad command to enter new frequencies probably also have a FPP capable Motorola spectra mobile radio and if you ever find any of these mythical radios please buy them immediately because they are worth millions and in the process of seeing these mythical radios would you also tell COWTHIEF that I said hello. I found your reply to be very informative -- until I read how you turned an otherwise useful and helpful reply completely negative.

When I turn the scanning off, the radio flashes the red light briefly for 3-4 seconds and then come up with REG FAILED on the screen. When the red led flashes, I can hear short digital bursts on the control analog-only radio. The radio has NO trunking systems at all, why would it want to register somewhere?Sounds like you have DVRS enabled. Uncheck/disable it for that personality.

Would like to be able to set it on different 2m freqs when I travel, and it is only for my personal use. Im not knowlegable about programming, nor is this anything other than a personal 2m handheld for me. It seems crazy to pay 100bucks to have it programed with a few channels I will need to change anyway when I drive anywhere. What is a torret and what can I do so at least I can use the radio? Im a licensed ham and want to use it for ham use. For those who happen upon this from a Google search here is my 2 cents worth: Regarding any RSS or CPS software from Motorola they DO NOT stock software for any of the old radios such as MT600, MT1000, Maratrac, etc.

However APX4000 only has time set button, I can't get it to display clock on the screen. Is it even possible? In Astro25 CPS it was possible to Drag and Drop zones and personalities from one codeplug to another. One just opened 2 windows with both codeplugs and off one goes. However it doesn't work for APX CPS. It is impossible to open 2 codeplugs in the same APX CPS window (unlike MotoTRBO CPS) and dragging and dropping from 2 diferent windows won't help either.
Drag and drop will then work. My APX2000 seems to behave strangely. I have a zone of Mixed-Mode Analog TX channels which I scan most of the time.

One important note using the software on older radios. I own an MT1000 myself and when I bought it used from a Motorola dealer, he told me that you must use an older (slower) computer. If you up-load to the radio at too fast a speed, you can destroy the main memory module rendering the radio useless and that it would be an expensive repair. This is why I have kept an old DOS based laptop kicking around.
